Getting Your Marriage License in Tennessee

Whether you’re traveling to Tennessee for a destination wedding or you’re a local, we’ve got you covered to make sure all goes smoothly the day of your wedding and after.
What are the requirements:
- Both applicants must be over 18 years of age.
- Both must be present when applying for the license.
- Both must present valid photo identification, such as a driver’s license.
- Know your social security number.
- Georgia will only allow their marriage license to be used in Georgia, so you would need to obtain a TN license for your ceremony in Tennessee.
How Do I Apply?
You have two ways to apply:
- Easiest: Apply Online – complete their online form up to 30 days in advance.
- Visit the County Clerk’s Office in Chattanooga (625 Georgia Avenue, Room 201, Chattanooga, TN 37402)

- It costs approximate $102 and they accept debit, credit cards, and cash.

How Can I Make This as Easy as Possible?
- Apply online up to 30 days in advance, that way you can walk in, pay, and pick it up.
- Make sure you bring the right documents!
- If you’re traveling to Chattanooga, we suggest giving arriving at least a day or two early so you can pick it up.
- The County Clerk offices are open Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm ET. If you have a weekend wedding, be sure to pick up your license by Friday.
What Happens After the Wedding?
- Your officiant (yours or ours) will sign and complete the license, then submit it to the Clerk’s Office. It can take up to 30 days to receive your certificate in the mail.
- Once the license is processed, you can request additional certified copies for legal purposes.
